St.
Mary’s Jacobite Syrian Cathedral Church, popularly
known as Kuruppampady Pally, is one of the ancient Holy
churches in Kerala. It is the off shoot of the ancient
Christian church of Kanjoor, near Kalady & Angamaly
and it is proudly located at side of Aluva - Munnar
road, about 5 KM towards east from Perumbavoor, Kerala,
India.
Though there is no historical proof available; it is
believed that the church was established in AD 1355.

- page 23). As in the case of many other churches, the
experts have difference in opinion about the date of
establishment of church and that are, AD 1067, 1150,

The
church was collapsed due to impact of wide spread heavy
rain and storm that threatened allover Kerala in AD
1657. The re-construction of church was delayed due
to many reasons but mainly due to the consequential
disputes aroused in connection with the Coonan Cross
Oath (Jan. 3rd 1653.)
The church was renovated in time to
time and a major renovation carried out in 1973 to
it presents size of 220 feet long x 35 feet width
and it was lead by the then Vicar
Rt. Rev. P. A. Paulose Kor Episcopa, Cheerathottathil
(headmaster of MGM School for 32 years and father
of Dr. Daniel Babu Paul, IAS, (http://www.keral.com/celebrities/babupaul/index.htm)
former Additional Chief Secretary in the rank of Chief
Secretary Of State and the Ombudsman of Kerala &
Shri K. Roy Paul, IAS, former Secretary, Ministry
of Civil Aviation).
The main Altar is in the name of Holy Mother and left
and right altars are in the names of St. Thomas and
St. George respectively.
There are 1827 families
under this church and 10 Sunday Schools, Youth Association
and Martha Marium Vanitha Samajam are functioning.

A
portion of the Holy Soonoro of St. Mary, the Mother
of God, placed at this church on 2004 December, 26th,
Sunday at 8 AM by His Beatitude More Baselios Thomas
I , the Catholicose and metropolitan trustee.
Every second Saturday Holy Soonoro
Perunal is celebrated and devotees can partake
in the Perunal and many are receiving blessings.
Elaborate programs are held every year in connection
with the Feast of the Assumption of the Holy Mother
Mary, on 15th August and the Holy Soonoro is displayed
to devotees.
Other major festivals are on March -1 (Kumbham-16) and
November -2 (Thulam–20)
