Kalady- Sankaracharya
 
This quiet little village, the birth place of great Sage Sri Sankarachrya, the great Indian Philosopher who lived in the 8th century, lies on the bank of Periyar river. It is 10 km from Kuruppampady and Aluva and 5km from Perumbavoor and the International Air Port, Nedumbassery and the nearest Rail way station Angamaly are about 10 km away and 45 Km from Cochin, Kerala, India.
 
It is a very important pilgrimage place having 3 temples, one of them dedicated to the great expounder of the Advaita Philosophy of India.

The Sharadadevi temple is a prominent land mark of Kalady. Sri SANKARACHRYA STUPA (Pillar) is located nearby. This Stupa gives the life history of Sankaracharya. It has 168 feet height and bottom diameter of 62 feet.

Sree Shankaracharya Sanscrit University is also located here. Temples dedicated to Sri Sankara, Sarada Devi, Sri Krishna and Sri Ramakrishna add to the sanctity of the destination.
