The
church is dedicated to St. Thomas. The Church was established
in AD 900 on the slopes of the picturesque Western Ghats,
the Kurishumudy, at 2000 feet high and the church is
at the top of the hill, about 2 Kms. can be reached
only by walking. Pilgrims of all faiths from far and
near proceed uphill holding wooden cross on thier shoulders
and chanting the name of the Apostle- “Ponnumkurishu
Muthappa, Ponmala kayattam Muthappa, Ponmala kayattam
Muthappa”. Devotees believe that his “Foot
Prints” can be seen there.
The feast or the 'Perunnal' is celebrated on the Sunday
after Easter, (Puthu Njayarasha) in the months of March/April.
